Economic Achievements(I)
Since reform and opening up, Yiwu has adhered to the development strategy of “Revitalizing the city through commerce and trade”, and charted a unique course of development in economy and society. In 2007, per capita GDP of Yiwu reached RMB 59,100 yuan. Urban resident’s disposable income reached RMB 25,007 yuan, and that of rural dwellers’ net income, RMB 10,255 yuan, increased by 15.9% and 16.4% respectively.
Economic Achievements(II)
Economic structure: Yiwu has a diversified ownership structure of economy with a well-developed private sector. Led by commerce and trade, Yiwu achieves balanced development in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, the proportion of which was 2.8:46.1:51.1 in 2007.
Industry: With the advantage of market, Yiwu has gradually established two major industrial development zones covering a total area of 260 square kilometers. Now, there are more than 16,000 enterprises in Yiwu. Moreover, Yiwu has fostered highly-competitive industries with products of jewelry, knitting, craftworks, color printing, zippers, and so on. And also comes forth many leader and bibcock enterprises, such as Neoglory Jewelry, Mengna Knitting, Weihai Zipper.
Agriculture: Agricultural structure is improving all the time, and profitable agriculture is developing steadily. Yiwu has fostered over 200 leading agricultural firms, and established 120,000-mu agricultural production bases. Ecological agriculture, sightseeing agriculture and leisure agriculture has flourished in the Chengbei Agricultural Economy Development Zone, with the area of 11,700 mu.
Economic Achievements(III)
Foreign trade: Export shipment value reached 1.828 billion US dollars in 2007. More than 1340 foreign companies have opened representative offices in Yiwu. Over 10,000 foreign businessmen are based here to procure commodities.
Finance: Yiwu has 40 financial institutions, including 13 banks with 248 outlets, 4 brokerage offices and 23 insurance branches. “Yiwu China Comodities City Trade Credit Insurance” is the first export & credit insurance in China, specially helping SMEs collect foreign exchange and avoid foreign trade risks.
Modern logistics: At present, Yiwu has more than 600 domestic freight operators, directly connecting over 250 large and medium-sized cities in China, excluding Taiwan. 17 world famous freight forwarders and shipping companies have opened representative offices in Yiwu. Yiwu has been decided by Zhejiang Provincial Government to be one of the three focus cities of “Rapid Customs Clearance Project” in Zhejiang, and one of the four modern logistic hubs that Zhejiang focuses on nurturing.
