The total retail market turnover in Yiwu reached 55.61 billion yuan in 2009, an increase of 12.96 percent from the previous year, according to the municipal industry and commerce administration. Turnover in the China Commodity City rose 7.8 percent to a new record high of 41.159 billion yuan in 2009.
Yiwu economy recovered strongly in 2009 with trade indicators, including turnover and container shipments, rebounding steadily. Monthly turnover in the China Commodity City has increased for 12 months in a row with an average growth rate at about 7 percent. Since June 2009, monthly exports container shipments have increased for six months in a row.
