On September 7，the world famous business magazine Forbes issued its yearly list of 2009 Forbes best business cities in mainland China in its Chinese version . The list shows that Yiwu’s consumption power index ranks first，and other 4 indexes(economy vitality，passenger transport，freight，and innovation)rank 17，23，34，and 38 respectively . In the sub-list of 2009 Forbes the best county-level cities in mainland China，Yiwu ranks third following Kunshan and Changshu(Jiangsu Province).
2009 list reflects cities’anti-recession ability Yiwu maintains stable development
In 2008，China was greatly influenced by the international sluggish economy，and how to deal with the situation and keep growth tested various cities’economic foundation . Liu Ruiming，executive chief editor of the magazine’s Chinese version and the maker of the best business cities list，said that anti-recession has become the theme of a great many cities，and some key measures have been taken to fight against the crisis including adjusting and optimizing the industrial structure，improving independent innovation capability，and steering from economic growth to quality improvement .
The list indicates that because of different structures，industries and ways to deal with the financial crisis，the position of the cities concerned on the list is influenced to various degrees . Yiwu ranks 46 in 2007，44 in 2008 and 45 in 2009，maintaining a relatively stable position on the list . Analysis of professionals shows that the steady position of Yiwu has a close relation with its solid economic foundation and flexible market management idea，such as turning the attention from foreign trade to domestic trade .

This time，the best business cities list attached great importance to 8 major indexes，including talent index，city scale index，operation cost index，consumption power index，economy vitality index，innovation index，passenger transport index and freight index . The 8 key indexes are formed by values of over 100 basic indexes，and reflect the development trend of a city .
It is clear on the list that Yiwu’s operation cost index ranks 61，at the middle-upper level . Comprehensively，Yiwu has a leading position in consumption power，strong economic vigor，developed passenger transport and freight industries，and powerful products research and development ability .
While the brightness is very attractive，the weakness in development is also very threatening. Talent index and city scale index rank 90 and 94 respectively . Problems demanding prompt solutions for Yiwu now are how to break the deadlock of talent shortage and the limitation of scale expansion with the present market reputation and relevant supporting policies.
