Zhangjiagang City is located on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, China's golden watercourse. On September of 1986, Shazhou Cou nty was withdrawn and Zhangjiagang City was se t up and now, it governs 8 towns and Changyinsha Administration District .The city covers a total area of 998.48 square kilometres, among it, the land area is 785.55 square kilometers. About 8073 large and small rivers pass through the city, which have the length of 4074.3 km in all. Relying on as cendant river waterfront, the international trade portZhangjiagang Port, the harbor bonded area which is the only one in Jiangsu of China and Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, the only one of the inland river free trade zone in China, in which the area of 1.53 square kilometers has been opened. and built. 先後榮獲國家衛生城市、國家園林城市、全國文明城市、全國生態市、中國人居環境獎等榮譽稱號。2007年，全市實現地區生產總值1050億元，比上年增長19.1%；地方一般預算收入83.98億元。在國家統計局最新公佈的全國百強縣（市）社會經濟綜合發展指數排名中，張家港市名列第三位。
